The City of Eugene’s Planning & Development Department is seeking the next Structural Plans Examiner, a positive, productive individual who enjoys providing excellent customer service to the community and can thrive in team environments.
The Structural Plans Examiner performs professional level review and examination of commercial, industrial, multi-family, and residential construction plans/documents to ensure compliance with structural engineering codes and standards.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a fully skilled journey level class within the professional plan review series and requires registration as a structural or civil engineer. Employees in this class are distinguished from the Plans Examiner by the greater complexity of the constructions plans reviewed, the responsibility to provide professional level and lead direction to other technical staff, and the greater independence with which an incumbent is expected to operate. Incumbents are expected to complete complex engineering related assignments (i.e. multi-story buildings, towers, unconventionally loaded structures, structures designed using non-empirical engineering methods, structures using non-standard construction material) requiring the use of judgment and initiative in developing solutions to problems, interpreting general policies, and determining work assignments. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
